Guide and tips on how to take care of hair, hairstyles, and hair coloring

Each year, people spend millions of dollars on hair-care products and treatments. Unfortunately, some of these efforts are too rough or done frequently. The result is hair damage rather hair care. Damaged hair stays damaged until it grows out and is cut off. This can take many months, because your hair grows only about 1/2 inch each month. The following are some tips and guide:

1. Brush your hair regularly before going to bed each night.
2. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo. Use very little but enough to cover hair completely with lather. Use a conditioner to keep hair manageable. If you like to wash your hair very day, do not use shampoo every day. Shampoo hair no more than twice a week as shampoo tends to strip your hair of its natural oils.
3. Avoid brushing wet hair. This will cause the hair to stretch and finally break. Finger-dry, or use a wide-toothed comb instead of a brush to gently remove the knots.
4. Restrict blow-drying your hair. The process of blow-drying is harsh on hair as it robs it of moisture. Air dry whenever possible.
5. Avoid dyes if possible.
6. Take a calcium supplement or drink two glasses of milk a day.
7. Always hold hair dryer away from your hair. Direct air from the hair dryer down hair shaft and not directly into the roots and keep it moving.
8. After a perm, never brush your hair. Instead comb hair gently.
9. Trim your hair once in 7 weeks to avoid split ends.
10. Avoid pulling back your hair tightly.
11. Never use a rubber band on your hair as it can pull and damage hair considerably.
12. Never go out in the sun without having your head covered.
13. Stimulate circulation by massaging your head with oil to which some vitamin E has been added. This will make hair soft and silky.
14. Never wash your hair with very hot or very cold water, which will damage your hair for your hair styles.
15. Learn to relax. Hair loss can happen because of stress. Eat foods that are rich in vitamin B, C and E.
16. Add iron and minerals in the natural form in your diet.
17. If your hair is oily, cut down on fried food and fat. Drink plenty of water.
18. Dandruff which most of us suffer from at some point in our lives is truly a painful and unwanted affair. The way to fix this problem is to use good shampoo and wash your hair more often.
19. Before straightening your hair with a hair straightener apply ample moisturizer to prevent damage and frizz. Temporary straightening is a great way to give a different look to your hair. Do not straighten your hair frequently to avoid damage to curly hair.

20. Never perm a color, always color a perm. In other words, always color your hair after your perm.

In conclusion, hair care is a very individualized and personal thing. Feel free to add your own flair and style to your hair care routine, but remember to include hair care principles that will benefit your hair and avoid those that damage it.

Short Hairstyles To Choose From

Despite the uber-popularity of short hairstyles, there are still ladies who are nervous about getting one.  One of the leading reasons is the perceived shortage of adaptability.  Seriously, what other designs can you do with a short hair?  Well, there are really many.

Topping the list is the bob cut.  This type of short hairstyle is the most flexible of all short hair.  It can be worn by those with curly or straight hair.  It fits any kind of face shape, though the length may vary.  As an example, if you have rounder face, you may wish to choose a bob cut that’s just a bit above the shoulder and more below the ears.  This is to tone down your face shape.  If you have heart-shaped or well-structured face, you can opt for a shorter bob cut.

The bob cut can also be of different colours, and you’ll never mess up with your decision.  This is also perfect if you like to grow your hair a lot faster, or if you do not need to let go of the opportunity to add clips or bring your hair to a semi-ponytail.

This hairstyle has been worn previously by Katie Holmes, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Keira Knightley, and Mandy Moore.

You may also have the layered cut.  This often goes well with long hairstyle, as the layered hair become even more noticeable.  Nonetheless, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t go perfectly with the shorter hairdo.  Layered cuts mean that the length of the hair is not completely uniform.  This is ideal if you want to add more volume into your extremely short haircut.  There are some women who aren’t graced with thick hair.  So when they go for the short style, they seem to have only a few hair.

moreover, when your layered short haircut starts to grow, you can maintain the volume or thickness of your hair.  You also don’t have to spend more money for hairstyling since you can conform the same cut even if your hair is long.

Boy cuts got their name from the inspiration.  As their name implies, they are usually worn by men.  Therefore, you can expect a far cleaner cut.  In fact, a lot of hairstylists would employ razors to actually shed hair found near the nape and on the side beside your ears.  The hairdo is cut nearer to your head.

This type of haircut  isn’t applicable for all types of girls.  They are actually not made for those with rounder faces, because they have a tendency to stress the shape.  Therefore, they might only look bigger.  They’re more perfect for girls with more exaggerated chins or jawbones.

Then you have spike of Victoria Beckham and Pink.  It combines a lot of elements of other hairstyles.  First, it’s usually cropped or really short.  Then the hairstylist has to layer the hair.  The only difference is that the ends of the hair should never fall down but instead appear like spikes, going into different angles.

Outstanding hairstyles for teenagers

The teenager years are exciting years and it is the time when boys and girls want to look trendy and willing to experiment and try new things. It is a fact that hairstyles for teenagers range from the sophisticated to the most wild and weird.

It may be interesting to know that just like there are trends in the fashion industry, hair styles also change from season to season. The one relieving factor about trend of black hair styles is you can easily change and update your hairstyle without having to spend hundreds of dollars on restocking the wardrobe.

All teenagers need to do is to spend time with the hairstylist and he or she will provide them all that   they want – may be in an hour’s time.  With the help of some equipment like styling tools, the hairstylist will even offer a teenager a choice of styles to suit his/her face shape, outfit and the event.

We are already nearing the end of 2009, but that need not deter a teenager to adopt one of this year’s black hair styles.  In fact, now is the right time as the hairstyle will surely change by the beginning of next year. Some of the currently prevailing black hair styles are:

Pixie Cuts: For teenagers who have really short hair, pixie cut is the hottest black hair style that the person can opt for. The pixie cut that your stylist will give you will have both geometric shape as well as glamour. The big advantage about this pixie cut is that it is easy to maintain and all you need is a few minutes styling to get ready.

Black Bobs: This bob is acknowledged by many as the trendiest hairstyle for the year 2009. Tell your stylist to give you the Rihanna bob and make sure that the length of your bob is proper for you to feel comfortable and yet look gorgeous.

Ultra-Sleek & Straight: Your hairstylist will use a straightening tool (flat iron) to tame your curly or wavy hair and change your locks into an ultra-sleek, straight style to make you look heavenly.

Braided Design: The hot black braided hairstyle is a class of its own. What lends braided hair such elegance is that the teenager’s hair will still be in its natural state.  The design is so simple and direct with a unique charm.

Sassy Bangs: The Sassy bangs are indeed versatile and there is a suitable cut of bangs for any face shape and hair length. By allowing the chopping off a few hair strands as bangs, the teenager can easily update the look without the need to have a complete haircut.

Teenagers must avoid opting in for styles simply because they are the ‘in thing’. Instead they should find out which particular hairstyles would suit them the best. The shape of the face will help determine the right kind of hairstyle. Study also the texture of your hair and choose a hairstyle that best suits the texture of your hair. Please also know that any stunning hairdo would require patient maintenance and willingness to spend liberally.

Teenagers who love to sport long hair can go in for layered hairstyles that help to add volume to the hair. Long layered haircuts frame the face well and help to enhance the features as well. Amongst hairstyles for teenagers, the short or long shags are quite popular. These look really trendy – particularly when sported with the right kind of attire. Shags are one of the easiest hairstyles to maintain.

Teenagers should not be afraid of trying out different colors for their tresses. Most teens would love to try freaky reds and shocking pinks. But it will be great fun to highlight certain sections of your hair with bright colors. This would certainly look more attractive than getting all your hair dyed in a bizarre shade. Hairstyles for teenagers can be as innovative as possible as teenage is probably the best period to try various hairdos.

Scene Hairstyles

Colorful and popular hairstyles are all the rage right now these days. Anything that is very bright and stands out is going to be the cool haircut to wear. An example of a type of haircut that you may have seen before is scene hair. This type of haircut is fairly new but is becoming popular very fast.  It is usually associated with emo but they are actually two different things.

For starters, scene hair can be worn on both male and females. It tends to look good the most on girls but a lot of guys tend to get good results as well. It all depends on who you are and how it’s going to look on you. You will want to experiment in order to see what scene hairstyle is the best for you.

The number one rule for these kinds of hairstyles is to keep your hair as straight as possible. Most people do not like curly haircuts and this type of style is no different. If you have curly hair, get it straightened.

The kind of cut you are going to get is going to be a huge deciding factor on whether it’s going to look good or not. Get a professional to cut your hair for you. Also, try to get someone who is familiar with modern hairstyles.

When getting it cut, go for the choppy kind of look and get your hairdresser to layer your hairstyle for you. Don’t forget to add some color to your haircut as well. This will make it stand out and get people to notice your new hair dew.

For boys, go for a black color and get bright streaks throughout your hair. Girls can usually go with bright colors all the way around. It does not really matter as much. Like I said earlier, everyone has different hair so do what you think is going to look best on you.

Tips Of Medium Wavy Hairstyles

The medium wavy hairstyles fall into place on its own, so they are free-flowing, easy-going, soft, full, with a lot of body. You can ware these hairstyles to any occasion or outing. And you can ware these hairstyles with any clothes. These hairstyles can vary from shoulder length graduated layers, to heavy one length looks, and even messy uniform layer cuts.

When waves are natural or even artificial (permed hair), casual medium wavy hairstyles are quick and easy  to create because the waves and cut determine the shape of the hair.  Waves created with curling devices and heat appliances require more time and styling products for hold. Some techniques you might like to try are simple things like ruffling, finger drying, and scrunch drying.

Waves have a soft look about them due to their curved nature and appearance to the eye. The medium length of these hairstyles also enables you to pull/tie your hair back- getting it out of the way or dressing it up more formally.

Alexandra Fulton looked perfect (like a Stepford wife, but without the scariness) at the opening night of the Beverly Hills Film Festival. Her classic bob was layered slightly through the edges, and this enhanced her soft curls and promoted a classic finish. This is an elegant style ideal for any special occasion.

Gender: Women

Face Shape: Oval, Oblong, Square, and Diamond

Age: Under 21, 21 – 30, 31 – 40, and 41 – 50

Height: Tall

Weight: Thin and Average

Styling Tip

Use the curling iron to add curl into the mid-lengths and the ends of your hair.

This style is all about the elegance and is a great look for a night out on the town. Long shaped layers have been cut around throughout the mid-lengths to give this look more volume to the ends and crown. This style will work best on medium to thick hair types. The Sides: have been cut around the shoulders, with layers cut up around the mid-lengths to give this look width around the sides. This style will work well on longer face shapes. The Back: has also been cut to the shoulder blade, with layers cut for more volume and to give this style a softer, fuller wave.

Face Shape: Oval, Oblong, Square, and Heart

Age: Under 21, 21 – 30, 31 – 40, and 41 – 50

Use the large curling iron in thick pieces of your hair to add large waves into the mid-lengths and ends.

Tips Of Short Curly Hairstyles

The short curly hairstyle falls into place on its own, so it is soft, natural, carefree, and very self styling. Also like other short hairstyles, you can wear it to any occasion or outing. These hairstyles include very short “wash and wear” layered looks, messy uniform layer cuts and top-heavy layers with short graduated bottoms

When curls are natural or even artificial (permed hair), short casual curly hairstyles are quick to create since the curls and cut determine the shape the hairstyles form. Styling generally requires some product- typically liquid gels in various forms and strengths- to keep the hair settled and styled.

Curls have a soft look about them due to their curved nature and soft appearance to the eye. The short length of this hairstyle can also be a blessing because weight and frizz can be controlled and eliminated on thick, coarse, untruly hair types.

Adrianne managed to get those cameras flashing at the GQ Celebrates 2007 “Men of the Year” event with a little help from her sassy hairdo. Her hair length was cut above her shoulders into a bob shape and featured graduating layers for volume and shape. This enhanced her loose curls and made her look stand out in the crowd.

Volume and body was the main idea for this look. Plenty of layers were cut through the back and sides to make this possible. This is great for those with naturally wavy or curly hair types.

This full and fancy ‘do has plenty of layers through the top and sides to add height and width to this look. The back has been tapered into the nape for a sharp and clean finish.

Long Scene Hairstyles

There are many different types of scene hairstyles out there. Some of the most common scene hairstyles will be those that are longer. I have noticed that girls tend to get their hair longer then guys do. Guys will usually leave it longer in the front but cut it short in the back. Usually gel or serum is used to make it look really messy as well.

If you are going to take the route of having longer hair, you are going to have to take a little but more care of it. This is one of the biggest problems of having longer hair. It takes more work to take care of and do it up every day but it will usually result in a better looking cut as a result.

You are more than likely going to want to trim your ends on a weekly basis. Remember, with this hairstyle you want to make it looks choppy and razor cut it. In order to do this you need to trim your ends often. Try to get it layered and dye it many different colors.

Another thing you are going to have to do is wash your hair every day. It is very important that you keep your hair as clean as possible. Getting that left over junk out of your hair can be tough so make sure you scrub your hair hard!

The last thing that you need to do is keep your color in strong. This is probably the most important step of this little mini guide. The thing that makes this hair so cool is the color that you can get from it. Dye your hair as soon as it fads so that it stay in well and looks the best that it really can.

I am an author of a blog that is all about scene hair, and long scene hair styles. If you would like you can go check it out.

Tips on Hair Cutting & Hairstyles for Different Face Shapes

When looking for advice or tips on cutting hair you really need to understand the basics first. Once you know and can see your face shape it will help determine the best cut and style that will complement your facial features. A good stylist should take your face shape into consideration before suggesting a hairstyle. Also your lifestyle, hair texture and condition is also very important before suggesting a hair style for you.

Getting the right hair cut is a great way to change an appearance, it should always make you look great. However when someone is giving a ear full of advice on how to cut your hair, always be sure that the advice your getting will result in having a great haircut. Whether your having a hairstylist cut your hair or if your cutting it at home, your going to want that style to look its best on you.

One of the first tips on cutting hair is that you need to work with or get advice from a professional hair stylist. They need to be, not only a good listener, but explain how and why the cut or style their suggesting will complement you.

Now to avoid a really bad cutting experience, I have come up with some really simple hair cutting tips. These hair cutting tips will help you when your getting a professional haircut or if you’re wanting to cut your own hair.

This fist tip on cutting hair is that you will always want a hair stylist who listen to their clients. They should make you feel comfortable enough to share your likes and dislikes or any apprehensions you may have. In the past I have had people that didn’t want a style or haircut I was suggesting and usually it was because the person that gave them their last cut or style, may have messed it up so badly the first time. That the client never got to see how nice the style would look on then, if the cut was done correctly in the first place. This is why listening and communication is so key here.

Now when your thinking about your next hair cut, be sure and look through some different magazines or pictures online. Then just print them out and bring them in to show your stylist. This always helps the hair stylist to have clear picture of what you expect and want.

Another wonderful hair cutting tip is know the type of hair you have. is it wavy, curly, fine or thick. Do you have a cow lick or a crazy hair pattern.

Another very important tip to take in to account is your face shape

Here are some steps to take before cutting your own hair.

Wash and condition your hair before cutting. this will make it easier to control while cutting. You hair stylist may suggest cutting your hair dry first. this is a professional techniques and works well in cases of bangs, Establishing length, lite trims and when it come to cutting curly hair. Remember though, hair is easier to control and cut when its wet.

If your unsure of the amount or length to cut. Then always cut off less than what you want the finished length to be if your cutting your own hair for the first time.

The easiest way to cut hair is in sections. Just comb the hair with the sectioned out hair in between your index and middle finger. This will give you the best control over your hair and a even cut.

Make each cut one small section at a time.

Be sure your standing or sit as straight as possible.

When cutting bangs don’t attempt to cut them wet or with tension. This will result in cutting then way to short.

Always use hair cutting scissors. Never use paper scissor or you’ll run the risk of tearing the hair and causing split-ends. These type of shears can be purchased at any local beauty supply store.

How to Wear Side Bun Hairstyles

Side bun hairstyles are getting more and more popular since they have made a huge comeback on the runways. It is a simple updo, yet sophisticated in its own way. It is a low maintenance look that provides a secure, elegant and stylish appearance for any occasion. Here are some ideas on how to wear it.

http://static.becomegorgeous.com/img/arts/2009/Nov/11/1509/sidebunhairstyles.jpg

Straight or Curly Hair

First of all, you should decide what texture are you going for. Straight hair can do a perfect sleek side bun that add a bit of edginess to your look. It is definitely a statement making style that provides an eye-catching appearance. You don’t need to accessorize it, just use a long strand to pass it from one side of your head to the other one and use it as a natural accessory. Try to make it without any parting to create a unique style. Fix it with plenty of hairspray.

If you go for curly or wavy styles, you can create glamorous buns with volume. These ones perfectly match side partings and bangs which will soften your look. Make tight curls and finish a perfectly polished bun, or leave hair in soft waves, tease a bit if you need to and fix it with bobby pins. Hide them as best as possible and fix your look with hairspray.

Low or High Side Bun

Another criteria that can add personality to your side bun, is where you place the bun. You can either go for low buns, or try some high positioned side buns that will create a different dimension to your personality. Low ones are the classic, elegant ones, while the high side buns are edgy, modern and perfect for a statement making look.

Maintain a Healthy Hair

Keep in mind that any styling means damaging your hair. So do your best in treating it and providing all the necessary vitamins it needs. Make sure you detangle your hair at the end of each day and remove all the styling products you used during the day. Nourish your hair by deep conditioning it, use homemade hair masks and maintain a healthy look. Only a healthy looking hair can make the best updos and provide the style you want.

Get Inspired from Celebrities

Also, you can always get inspired from celebrity hairstyles, who make incredible appearances with their glamorous updos.
