With the new year comes new natural hair care
The choice of hair care products around nowadays is truly amazing, and the ranges available just keep growing. Until the advent of the first hair conditioner in the 1970s, only basic shampoos were available. If you had ‘normal’ or ‘greasy’ hair, there was a shampoo for you, alongside the only other variation – the one for treating dandruff.
When that first conditioner came on the scene, it revolutionised hair care; at long last, the days of flyaway hair could be put behind us. What was not foreseeable was the proliferation of products that this heralded, and every type of hair was soon being catered for. Special products began being developed for everything possible to do with hair; once it was just a matter of choosing the right shampoo; soon that shampoo came with a matching conditioner, and nowadays, it comes with a whole host of other products for styling the hair – gels, mousses, serums, waxes, and hairsprays, tempting you to the whole range to ensure perfect hair.
The list of manufacturers for hair care products grew and, while most of them are still household names, they have been joined by even bigger names; nowadays, even fashion houses have their own ranges available. At the other end of the spectrum, the supermarkets and pharmacy chains introduced their own equivalents, which in most cases are just as good but cost a lot less.
While the list of continues to grow, there is another revolution in the industry, and most manufacturers today are becoming aware of the concern about the overuse of chemicals that may harm the user and the environment; a whole new generation of carefully-prepared and well-researched products are starting to hit the shelves, providing us all with a lot more choice, but with the added difficulty of choosing the right one for that perfect head of hair.
